SiteSelection.com evaluates the states annually using a four-part index of criteria linked to the magazine’s proprietary New Plant database of new and expanded facilities and a survey of corporate site selectors indicating their preference for state business climates
This year Tennessee jumped three spots to reclaim second place in this year’s Site Selection magazine rankings of the top state business climates. A year ago, Tennessee fell to fifth, after a second-place finish in 2008.
The magazine cites taxes, science and technology initiatives, infrastructure investments and as examples of Tennessee’s business-friendly policies.
Site Selection ranks states based on the investment in new plants, expansion of existing businesses and a survey of corporate site selectors.
Only North Carolina ranked higher than Tennessee, capturing the rankings top spot for the ninth time in 10 years. Texas, Virginia and South Carolina round out the Top 5 for 2010.
