West Knoxville Home Buyers: 5 Red Flags To Watch Out For
Buying a West Knoxville home is a big decision. If you’ve finally decided to take the plunge into home ownership, searching for a West Knoxville home can be an exiting and sometimes, overwhelming experience. Here are a few red flags to watch out for during your West Knoxville home search.
There are multiple homes on the street for sale. Take a look around the neighborhood…are there a lot of people moving? Are businesses leaving the area? Even if the West Knoxville home you are looking at has everything you are looking for, be aware of what is going on around the home. If a lot of people and businesses are leaving the area, it could be a bad sign for property values in the area.
Poor maintenance. Does the roof look like its on the verge of caving in? Are their plants growing in the gutters? These signs of disrepair may only be the beginning. Maintaining a home is a great deal of work, if the homeowner hasn’t visibly maintained the home, proceed with caution. There is no saying what else hasn’t been maintained in that West Knoxville home.
A mystery room. Any room listed as “off limits” during the home tour should raise some red flags. Don’t be afraid to ask about them or request to see them prior to writing an off. There is no telling what the seller is hiding behind that locked door.
Fresh paint…but only on one wall. There’s nothing wrong with fresh coat of paint. But, if there’s only a fresh coat of paint on one wall, be wary. They could be hiding water damage.
Strange smells. Or, air fresheners concealing smells. Smells of mold, mildew or gas could be signs of bigger problems.
