Knoxville was named among the Top 10 U.S. Travel Destinations for October, according to a recent Reuters report. On the list, Knoxville was ranked #5. Data for the list was based on the top destination searches for the month of October on CheapFlights.Com.
The Top 10 U.S. Destinations on the report were as follows:
(1) Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
(2) Fort Meyers, Florida.
(3) Austin, Texas.
(4) Albuquerque, New Mexico.
(5) Knoxville, Tennessee.
(6) Toledo, Ohio.
(7) Asheville, North Carolina.
(8) Greenville, South Carolina.
(9) Columbus, Ohio.
(10) Tampa, Florida.
So what would be the draw to the area in the fall?
Knoxville has a beautiful, mild fall. With it being so close to the Great Smokey Mountains, it is a great place to visit to enjoy the change of fall foliage. The fall colors are at the peak at high elevations (around 4,000 feet) from early October to mid-October. At the lower elevations (below 4,000 feet), the fall colors are at the peak from mid-October to early November. The Great Smokey Mountains National Park has a wide-variety of trails where visitors can go to enjoy the change of colors. Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Gaitlinburg are all popular destinations in the fall, since they are so close to the Great Smokey Mountains. They all offer beautiful mountain cabin rentals, shopping, and dining experiences.
In addition, the area is made popular destination in the fall for those who want to enjoy a Tennessee football game. Visitors can come enjoy a game and take in the beautiful mountain views and changing fall colors.
This is not the first time that the area has been ranked as a popular travel destination. It was ranked #10 on a list of Top Travel Destination This Summer by Frommer’s Guides, a well respected travel resource.
