Here are four popular historic sites in Farragut, TN, you should add to your list.
Located just off Campbell Station Road in Farragut, Founder’s Park is a staple of the town’s park system and one of the busiest parks in the area.
It was initially named Campbell Station Park but later changed to Founder’s Park at Campbell Station in honor of the town’s heritage.
Its 17-acre space includes several open play spaces, picnic sites, and an outdoor classroom. You’ll also see bronze sculptures around the park and paved walking trails waiting for those who want to get some exercise.
The most exciting part is the parks’ Community Heritage Trail. The trail, built in 2013, features 11 signs throughout the park. These signs chronicle the history of the Farragut and Concord areas from the earliest Native American times to the founding of the Town of Farragut in 1980.
Farragut is home to several historical landmarks, including Campbell Station Inn and the Battle of Campbell Station.
The inn, located on Campbell Station Road at the corner of Kingston Pike in Farragut, was built in the early 1800s and is still standing today. It served as a stopping place for travelers and hunters during the early 1800s.
Some of history’s most prominent figures stayed at the inn, including Andrew Jackson and Tennessee Governor John Sevier.
If you want to get a feel of the Civil War, this place is a must-visit.
If you’ve never been to Farragut, you need to visit the Farragut Museum. The museum houses a remarkable collection of artifacts and photographs that illustrate the town’s history. Exhibits include those of Admiral David Glasgow Farragut — a Civil War hero and the United States’ first admiral.
There are also local items available for sale in the museum, which you can buy from the Frances L. Abel Gift Shop. You’ll find toys and crafts related to local history and the Civil War and a documentary entitled “The History of Concord & Farragut.”
If you plan to visit, know that the museum is open Monday-Friday only from 11 am – 2 pm.
On the grounds adjacent to the Town Hall of Farragut, the Farragut Memorial Plaza provides a peaceful setting for relaxing, learning about local history, and taking in the stunning Tennessee scenery.
Explore the plaza to see the life-sized bronze statue of Admiral David Farragut. Civil War cannons are also on display from the US Naval Yard, making a good backdrop for your photos.
