Buying Your First West Knoxville Home – Do Your Homework.

How much home can you afford? how do you decide about homeowner’s insurance, inspections, and title insurance? In Part I of this series, we explore the importance of doing your homework prior to starting  your West Knoxville or Farragut home search.

First and foremost, sit down and talk to a loan officer about how much you can afford. The earlier you do this, the better. That way, if you know from the very beginning how much you can afford and if there are potentially any credit issues that need to be dealt with prior to buying. There is nothing worse than falling in love with a West Knoxville or Farragut home, only to find out that it is not within your price range.

Are you looking to live in a specific part of town? Are you looking to buy a short sale? Don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations from friends, family members, and co-workers, but be sure the REALTOR® you pick will be able to meet your needs as well. A REALTOR® that specializes in your buying needs can be a great asset to you and will be able to provide you with a wealth of information on the topic. 

When it comes to buying your first West Knoxville or Farragut home, your REALTOR® and your loan officer will be your biggest allies. A loan officer will be able to explain the mortgage approval process, give you an estimate of your monthly payments, and explain the differences between the different types of loan and which one may be best for you. A REALTOR® will be able to help guide you through the home buying process. Throughout the process, they are there to help you along the way. Just be sure to do a little research to find a loan officer and REALTOR® that meet your needs.
